Pros And Cons Of Adopting A Mini Schnauzer Puppy

About Me
Understanding Positive Pet Care and Training Techniques

Hello, my name is Trinity Bernard. Welcome to my site about pet care and training. When I acquired my first pet, I was determined to train him to do all of my favorite tricks. The only problem was that he was a very lazy cat. By using clicker training and high reward treats, I was able to convince him to sit up pretty, jump through hoops and much more. I have successfully used this training technique with many other animals through the years. I will help you approach this process with ease by updating this site with pet care and training content. Please feel free to come back again soon.

Pros And Cons Of Adopting A Mini Schnauzer Puppy

Adopting a mini schnauzer puppy can be so rewarding! But like every dog breed, mini schnauzers do have their challenges too. As such, they are not the right choice for every family, although they are a great choice for many families. Is adopting a miniature schnauzer puppy the right move for your family? Look over the pros and cons below to get a better idea.

Pro: Mini schnauzers are highly trainable

Some small dogs are really hard to train. Their size does tend to make it easier for owners to let little behaviors "slip." Mini schnauzers, however, are one of the easiest small dog breeds to train. They are very eager to please, so they perform well with reward-based, positive reinforcement training. Mini schnauzer puppies are often potty trained within a few weeks, and they perform wonderfully in puppy obedience classes.

Con: Mini schnauzers bark a lot

This does not bother everyone, but if you want a quiet dog, a mini schnauzer may not be the best breed for you. While they are easy to train in general, training them not to bark is an uphill battle. They naturally want to alert their owners when anything or anyone suspicious is nearby. They bark when excited, when annoyed, and even when they want attention.

Pro: Mini schnauzers can live in smaller areas

Mini schnauzers do require plenty of exercise. They need to run, jump, and play. However, since they are so small, they can get enough exercise even in a small apartment — as long as you take them on walks or to a dog park from time to time. Whether you live in a city apartment or a single-family home, the space can accommodate a mini schnauzer. And if you ever move to a smaller living space, you'll be able to take your dog with you.

Con: Mini schnauzers need lots of grooming

These dogs actually have two coats. They have a thin undercoat that sheds plus a wiry overcoat that needs to be trimmed. You'll need to take your pup to the groomer early on to get them used to being bathed, brushed, and clipped. The cost of grooming can add up over time.

If you don't mind taking your dog to a groomer and you're not bothered by barking, then a mini schnauzer pup can be the perfect addition to your family. You're sure to enjoy training and interacting with your little fuzzball.
