About Me
Understanding Positive Pet Care and Training Techniques

Hello, my name is Trinity Bernard. Welcome to my site about pet care and training. When I acquired my first pet, I was determined to train him to do all of my favorite tricks. The only problem was that he was a very lazy cat. By using clicker training and high reward treats, I was able to convince him to sit up pretty, jump through hoops and much more. I have successfully used this training technique with many other animals through the years. I will help you approach this process with ease by updating this site with pet care and training content. Please feel free to come back again soon.

Is A Retriever The Right Dog For Your Family?

If you are looking for a large breed dog to welcome into your family, then you want to make sure you consider some very important factors so you end up with a dog that fits in with your family, your other pets and your lifestyle. If you are thinking about bringing home a retriever puppy, such as a cute little white golden cream retriever puppy, then here are some things you should know about retrievers:

They are working dogs: Retrievers are working dogs and this is where their name comes from. They are bred to retrieve ducks and other fowl for hunters. This lets you know a couple things about their personalities. It tells you that they are very smart and will work to please their owners. It also lets you know that they are driven and have plenty of energy. If you are looking for a dog that you can take places with you, such as hiking and playing frisbee at the beach or park, then this breed would be great for these things. Also, you will know that they are going to be relatively easy to train and this means you can count on having a well-behaved dog that follows your commands as long as you put the work into training them at your side.

They are easy to groom: Retrievers have medium length fur that isn't known for tangling. They do require regular bathing, just as all dogs do, but you won't have to worry about taking them into the groomers in order to have them shaved. If your dog spends a good amount of time outdoors then you may find that they don't need their nails trimmed too often. However, if they are only in a grass backyard or in the house, then their nails may not get a chance to wear down the way they do if they can dig in the dirt or walk on harder surfaces. In this case, you will need to make sure you have their nails trimmed on a regular basis. A retriever's fur does allow the water to bead right off of it, so you will need to soak them a little longer to make sure the water penetrates down into their fur.

They are very friendly dogs: When it comes to getting a dog that is great with the whole family, kids and other pets, you'll find that retrievers can be a great choice. They are very friendly around people and animals, but they can also be protective of their loved ones if they feel that they are being threatened and are in harm's way.
